Intesa Sanpaolo Banka and KfW launch €20m credit line to boost green transition in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Targeted investments in energy efficiency and emissions reduction to driving the energy transition in the Western Balkans
Intesa Sanpaolo Banka - part of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group - has signed a €20 million Credit Line Agreement with Germany’s development bank Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) to accelerate Bosnia and Herzegovina’s transition to a greener economy.
To credit line supports micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and municipalities in improving energy efficiency and investing in renewable energy.
A €3 million grant component enables eligible participants to recover up to 15% of their investment, provided their projects REEP Plus criteria for energy efficiency.
Why it matters: Tailored financial products targeting energy savings and CO₂ reduction are among the most effective ways to drive decarbonization and boost MSMEs‘ resilience.

Key details: The new facility, part of the Low Carbon Energy Facility BiH, supports MSMEs and municipalities in enhancing energy efficiency and developing small-scale renewable energy projects. The resulting improvements are expected to lower resource consumption and emissions, contributing to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s climate protection goals.
